Again and again, feeling of wow arises the moment you come across the meanings of practices or rituals in the Indian culture.
Every thing is done keeping in mind the higher goals of life : Peace – Love – Oneness.
A coincidence of all the major festivals/celebrations is that they fall either near full moon day or new moon day. But in reality they have been planned that way. Every full moon has its importance so that people do not take it lightly and celebrate in a certain manner, dress up in a different manner , feel grateful and eat specific food or observe fast, more suitable to the weather conditions or prepare our body for the weather changes. ‘Simply fantastic’ is the word for these practices.
Though every planet has a specific effect on our body but more prominent is the Moon, which has an effect on water thereby causing high tide, low tide and not to forget that human body is made up of more than 60 % water. Affecting our mind, emotions and bringing out the impurities of the system to the surface making one uncomfortable are the effects of full and new moon days. But in the process of celebrating some festival or important occasion, makes one get busy in preparations resulting in not paying much attention on impurities and instead celebrate.
Another important occasion round the corner on the full moon day is Guru Purnima which is one of the most revered festivals for any seeker or a person seeking spiritual knowledge. It is the time to reflect on how productive the preceding year has been, ‘where was I’ and ‘where I am’.
It is the day of the Master where in all disciples/devotees get the opportunity to feel grateful for all the knowledge that they have received from their Master; how the Master has been holding them into different situations. To celebrate lot of preparation commences few weeks or months in advance.
What is that we can do in return for receiving so much knowledge?
Usually disciples take up some social activities, more suitable to the time. for example: Since it is rainy reason it is best to plant trees. Millions of trees are being planted to celebrate with Mother Earth/Humanity.
Well, not to miss out on the amazing variety of Indian cuisine that depends on which part of country you are in and you have always something to look forward to in that too.
So, celebration after celebration, who has time to worry/ grumble/ fight? Time is not sufficient enough for celebration. Truly amazing, is our rich culture.
